Handicapping & Posting Scores

Handicapping

Handicapping is a way of equalizing scores of golfers of different abilities. The handicap computer is located in the golf shop. At the completion of each round, all players MUST enter their score.

Ladies and Juniors may have a nine or eighteen hole handicap while men must have an eighteen hole handicap.

Handicaps are necessary to participate in Ladies Day and other Sunnyside Tournaments. Before you post your score in the computer, make sure that you adjust your score using equitable stroke control. The golf shop will assist you with the equitable stroke control and computer if they are new to you. All posting scores are the responsibility of the individual golfer and is done on the honor system.

Equitable Stoke Control

This is used when a player's actual or most likely score exceeds his maximum number based on the table below. This is used when you decide to pick up because you are going to exceed the maximum scores listed below. You should not however take the maximum score allowed if you pick up but would most likely have a score lower than the maximum score listed below.

Your Handicap                    Maximum Score Posted on any Hole

9 or less                            Double Bogey

10 through 19                    7

20 through 29                    8

30 through 39                    9

40 and above                    10

Posting a score when a completed round is not played.

If 7-12 holes are played, the player shall post a 9 hole score. If 13 or more holes are played, the player shall post an 18 hole score. In either case, scores for any unplayed holes shall be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes.

Example: If you are an 18 handicap, you get a shot on every hole. Your recorded score for unplayed hole would be par plus 1. If you are a 9 handicap, your recorded score would be par plus 1 on any hole list as the 9th handicap hole or less ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9).

The computer will automatically combine nine hole scores for you.
